POLITICS

The forum has been very quiet all month. I don't think I've ever seen this long a period of time without someone posting something worth talking about. Politics is always a topic that gets heated discussions going. Is everyone happy with our president elect? I read somewhere that he plays chess. Wou...

"Who is Online"

How accurate is the info listed in "Who is Online"? It always seems to say that there are 3 users on line. With all the people playing here there has to be more people playing at any given time than just 3.

Blitz Chess

There's a chess site I go to to play "Blitz Chess". The site is gameknot.com. Blitz Chess is played in real time and each game is limited to 10 minutes. The wins and losses don't effect ratings. Its a cool thing to do to just play a quick game that means nothing, or something to do if one doesn't ha...

I guess it takes a major event to get the forum hopping. I've seen more action here since Bobby Fischer's death than ever before. That's good! Its nice to have someplace to chat when I'm waiting for my turn to move. This is the best place to play on the internet. Thanks Greg. :)

Gentlemen, Mr Fischer was a free man and entitled to persue any religion he chose for himself. That's one of the basic freedoms this country was built on. Many men and women have laid down their lives to preserve that right. We don't have to agree, but we do have to live and let live. I tip my hat t...

I came across something new on net-chess. I started a match and didn't notice the "add time" I usually get added on to my "remaining time" when I make a move was blank. What this means, of course, is that the original time allowed to make the first move is all the time I will have to complete an ent...

I hate it when........

I hate it when someone who has been making 2-3 moves a day for weeks all of a sudden stops moving because he/she has lost a major piece, or lost positional advantage. There ought to be a penalty when it's obvious someone is doing this.

"Bobby Fisher Teaches Chess" is an excellent book for beginners. Very basic. Teaches pins, forks, and other very basic skills. Consist mostly of diagrams that the beginner can pencil in responses to. My 2 children used it in the beginning, and it greatly increased their skill.
