The books that have influenced my play the most are: 'How the Russians play chess', and 'Think like a grandmaster'....two excellent books well written and even a patzer like me can understand them to some point.

lost my brother saturday

Just wanted to let you all know if I don't make any moves for a few days it's because I lost my brother Gerald. He passed away saturday and it has hit me real hard...he was an excellent chessplayer, much better than me. He was the father of 4 wonderful daughters, a great friend, and uncle to my kids...

Well it's been almost three years and I have finally reached 900 wins, over 2000 games, and a rating of almost 2300...not bad for a class B uscf player, who doesnt use chess engines to figure out his moves .

congrats....just remember this...: those who have a 2500 plus rating on this site the majority of them are using chess engines to figure out moves when the games get more complicated .sssoooo you might have some difficulty with them as I do under your own brain power....

West Covina chess club is a big deal out there...lots of weekend tournaments... also santa monica chess club....you will have your hands full of chess clubs...also Robert Schmidt(forgot last name???) teaches chess at Saddleback College...he is a national master...very good player...good luck and goo...

I guess I just feel that if you are using your brain not an artificial intelligence brain you get more out of it and improve your chess...but I really don't see how a USCF player with an OTB rating of 1300 is really learning using a chess base engine to figure out his moves.
