Brian's Game of the Day

Post by iamachessstudent » Wed May 02, 2012 9:06 am

Hey Bri!

Here is the game we talked about and I hope I am able to point some things out to you... as always any1 can comment or add their analysis and thoughts in !:)

[Event "m1334336755"]
[Site "net-chess.com"]
[Date "2012.04.25"]
[Round "1"]
[White "cmulligan"]
[Black "islanderfan"]
[Result "1-0"]
[WhiteElo "2276"]
[BlackElo "2038"]
[Game "g1105106675"]

Sokolski (Orangutang) Opening
This was a very original and fun game, it bordered on equality to a slight White edge through most of the game, thought Black had a few chances to get a small edge as well; and right at a crucial moment..that is when things went bad...

1.b4 b5
2.a4 e6 Original but not a bad move!
3.Bc1b2 Ng8f6
4.axb5 Bf8xb4
5.Ra1a4 Bb4c5
6.e3 consolidating the d4 square ...a6
7.Ng1f3 Bc8b7
8.Bf1e2 ( If 8.Na3 then 0-0 is =) ...axb5
9.Ra4xa8 Bb7xa8
10.0-0 (10.Bxb5, 0-0 is also =)...0-0 (10..Bf3!? was an interesting idea and after 11. gxf3,then 11...d5 is actually slightly in black's favor !)
11.Be2xb5 = ...Ba8c6
12.Bb5xc6 Nb8xc6
13.d4 Qd8b8
14.Bb2a3 Bc5xa3
15.Nb1xa3 d5( or 15...Qb2; 16.Qc1, Rb8; 17.Qxb2, Rxb2; 18.Rb1 is also equal)
16.c4 dxc4
17.Na3xc4 Rf8d8
18.Nf3e5 Nc6xe5
19.Nc4xe5 c5?? the mistake that costs thegame...Black is ONLY slightly worse atbest and if (19..Rd6!?; 20.Qc2, then ..Rb6 holds and Black can fight a long time !)
20.Ne5c6 Qb8c7
21.Nc6xd8 Qc7xd8
22.dxc5 Qd8c8 (23..Ne8 is no better because of 24. c6!)
24.Rf1d1 (24.c6 was faster)g6
25.c6 Nf6d5 ( the only other move i can see is 25..Qc7 but black is lost here regardless).
26.e4 Nd5c7
27.Qc2c5 Kf8e8
28.Rd1d7 {black resigned.}
1-0

Basically, the game was more or less even and in the balance until the unfortunate 19th move, then it was just a matter of time for White.
A good example of how 1 move can ruin a position!

I would have played 5.e4! Knowing Brian, that would have shaken an error a lot earlier off the Chess Tree.
28.Qe5 Looks very nasty also... would bring about more ways to 'gut the fish'.
Definitely a fun game to flip through.
Everyone must realize that when playing these boys (or me), one tends to get distracted with all the bantering during the games and the actual Chess game sometimes is just a formality. But they are very enjoyable regardless of the outcomes for most end quickly with a 'goofy' move at some point.

Well, well... maybe I can swindle you into falling for the famous,
'I got to blabbing too much and forgot what I was doing'
move.
Be careful because that unusual Sicilian game we have going is just the type...
Might make a good game to banter about in this column... if I win it. Or else 3.h4 will just look retarded. But it does have a secret lurking which I have shared with you during the game.
I share it here with everyone: 1.e4 c5 2.Ng1f3 Nb8c6 3.h4 is the interesting Opening line.

I can explain move 24. At this point I was bored with the game;knowing it was wrapped up,so I let my cat finish the game for me. Typical of cats he decided to draw out the win for his sick feline entertainment. Sorry about that,he's a meaner chess player than I am... :D
