The rules are basically the same as those for the previous tournaments:
There is no entry fee.
Players may register only once (duplicate entries will be ignored if you accidently sign up twice).
The games will be correspondence games.
Computers may not be used to evaluate moves, board possitions, etc.
Each round will consist of several two-game matches with about six players each. (That means, you'll be playing about 10 games simultaneously. Two games against each player, one as black, one as white). The number of players per match will change as the rounds progress based on the number of participants remaining.
Assignment in matches will be totally at random,
the player's rating will play no role in match assignment
. Sometimes finalists from previous tournaments will be given byes, and/or pairings to make sure they don't play eachother early on.
Time may or may not be added due to system outages. Any time added is at the descretion of the tournament director.
Players may register until the tournament begins.
Round 1 of the tournament start date will be sometime in February 2012, the exact date has not yet been determined.
For each round each player will be given exactly 60 days of think time (this is the equivelant of 60d+0d). After the game reaches the 50 move mark, each player will receive an extra 15 days of time upon request. Subsequent rounds may have longer time controls depending on the number of players in a match. In traditional time controls, this is equivelant to 50/60, 15SD (50 moves in 60 days, and 15 days for the remainder of the game). But players may need to ask to have the time adjusted.
The game clock will begin ticking immediatley at midnight. Players should log in to view their games wether or not an e-mail notification is received.
Players must make their first move within 10 days of the game beginning where they play as white. When playing black, players must make their first move within 10 days after white makes his first move.
Round two will begin a couple weeks after round 1 winners are determined. Those selected to proceed to round two will have their names listed on the Tournament page.
Further rounds will follow the same guidlines.
The rules may be changed to help the tournament proceed more smoothly.
